Why “STYLE POWER”? When we ask, we’ve had many men tell us, that they don’t really bother or care about fashion design. Others claim that style and looking good is way too expensive. That the industry strongly caters for women and doesn’t consider that men might also like to wear something different.
One guy defiantly said he’d rather spend his hard earned dosh on a boat or a trip with friends than a “great cashmere sweater”! Fair’s fair gents … Problem is, when we drill deeper, they finally confess that they really don’t have a clue what they are doing when they come to clothing. And they still don’t look good despite all their protests.
In a rapidly changing world where men are expected to look good and bring their best to the table in order to win, the badly dressed slob is classed a loser. Straight up! It’s the game of life.
But fear not. “STYLE POWER” is here to help; giving you tips on how to win by looking and being your best. A powerfully dressed individual is one people will pause to listen to what he says, because s/he exudes confidence from the first impression.

Right so this must be the new way designers are showing off their ranges, because if you put all this stuff together for your daily outfit, you’d be looked upon as some homeless duff. Right? So, in viewing these pictures, you can see that the consumer would more than likely say, “Ok, I love the belt on that look, and maybe the shoes on this look” but all in all, is it a piece-meal collection or one peppered with utter genius? “Last night the press release for Westwood’s menswear collection, for Milan Fashion Week, declared: “Perhaps the oddest of heroes to emerge this season, Vivienne Westwood found inspiration in the roving vagrant whose daily get-up is a battle gear for the harsh weather conditions . . . Quilted bombers and snug hoodies also work well in keeping the vagrant warm.” Yes. The homeless. Of course, in the candy-colored world of Vivienne Westwood, homeless people are all young with great bodies, high
cheekbones and flawless skin, and they all have super-styled hair and brightly colored clothes. And sometimes they’ll walk around in big goofy hats or even teddy bear heads! Sometimes even a crown because they are homeless and therefore crazy. Darlings, you just can’t write about it! Well….I just did. SO – we all know that inspiration comes to artists in various forms, but for a high level designer such as Vivienne Westwood to be inspired by the homeless means there has been a scary increase in percentage of these forgotten people. So if that is the case, and she is riding the dusty coattails of these people; then every piece sold from the collection, should have a percentage donated to the homeless. Our belief is if the influential are going to take something from the homeless who have nothing, then something should be given back. Agree?

As you ponder NYE disasters and adorably futile resolutions…(but hey, they sounded good at the time), take a moment to reflect with the Stylemeisters on the year that was like a rabbit staring into headlights. I’d like to think that we were eating cointreau dipped carrots at the time, but I’d be lying. We’ll catch you at the gym, next week.
Life is life, as we will possibly sigh when we reflect on our personal journeys of 2009. Will next year be better? Will it be much of the same, will we get it? Or will we just move along with the tide? This year for some has been an absolute disaster and for others total bliss. But life is not without her disappointments or victories. We’re hoping there have been more victories than disappointments.
Our Style book found at – www.menstylepower.com – is filled with reasons why we all need a little help with our personal style. Not all of us are born with the ability to match colours, or shapes and styles. Believe me, I’ve seen some freakin’ disasters! Our book is a thorough read, covering styling tips for the absolute essentials in a man’s wardrobe and is accompanied with the importance of dressing from the inside out. And we’re not talking about the ever-popular Calvin Klein’s. We’re talking about how you speak, how you sharpen your decision making, your accountability, your attitude, your self-preservation and your problem solving. Believe it or not fellas, women will be able to sniff this out like choosing the right perfume for her at the Jo Malone or Chanel counter! It is almost instant when she senses something that’s not quite right…for her. So if you’ve got love on the calendar for 2010, or you have that gorgeous gal in your sights already; best you get to our E-book! www.menstylepower.com
We here at Style 101 HQ are passionate about searching deep within the male spirit to bring you to a profound realisation of what YOUR life is about. Men are more prone to depression, anxiety and fear these days due to the instability of the workplace, and their lack of belonging and fear of failure. We seek answers for you and have case studied people, books, situations and have talked to a lot of men and women who are at a cross road in life regarding their personal style and what they are attracting and what they’re Not.
Style is a key attraction to what you want in life, and we want the best for you! Dress sharp, feel good, brush your teeth.
Happy new year. We’ll be seeing you soon.

Once upon a time tattoos were given to the gutsy, not the trendy. Artists put a lot of earnest thought into the designs that are called, body art. Many consumers, don’t. Many people rip their ink images off pages of celebrity magazines, walk into retail tattoo salons fuelled emotionally to be inked spontaneously with an image that has not been well thought out, and this image will not change. So if you’re asking anyone but yourself if you should get a tattoo, then you’re not ready. In the last 7 years, the amount of adults who have a tattoo has doubled. And the regret for getting a tattoo has doubled also.
The mainstream tattooing has over-ridden the fringe art, where once a right of passage via an initiation into a tribe, it has been forsaken by “Tazmanian Devils and Tinker Bells”. And because of this growing obsession with tattoos, the artists themselves are torn between their imagery and their pockets.
Tattooing is a unique art form. The artist must have a special gift of freehand art work, proportion, mastery, warriorhood, compassion, conversation, and confidence. He/she needs to understand colour, line, shape and have certificates of senior first aid, so he/she can handle situations where people faint, freak out at the last minute, and deal with emotion. You’re not dealing with an everyday person here when they draw on you with a needle that scrapes your skin for hours at a time. The pain is tormenting. And the artist does it, because they are devoted.
Referencing movies and in particular Twilight and Avatar, it’s shown that tattooing is a very old human practice, not a fashion statement. The mark given to both Jacob (werewolf in Twilight) and Jake Sully (Lead Avatar-droid) indicates their initiation into warriorhood, or wolve-hood. But these marking are not given because of their physical strength. Quite the contrary – they are given to them because they are protectors, leaders and Kings.

Disguised by its author as a Vampire vs Werewolf drama, underneath this film in its most organic state, is a story about decisions we make regarding our quest for true love. And what it takes to protect it, when the miracle happens…meaning, when IT finds you. Because Love chooses you.
What’s fascinating about Twilight and the phenomena around its success, is the focus on the 2 lead actors. I don’t know about you, but the blank stare and lack of expression that omits from Bella doesn’t attract me at all, but then you realise that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. No?
Quite unknown and obviously youthful, Kristen and Robert have exposed their real-life relationship which obviously has developed from their silver screen tension. Clearly Robert Pattinson is the heart-throb of nearly every teenage girl on the planet. And included in this group are Gen X and Baby-boomers who are happy to reminisce on such days when innocence of a first love flourished. Robbie has by-passed the Hollywood code of conduct and rule book, to draw in his co-star with chivalry, gentlemanship and respect. Wow – those are words not used nearly enough in the media these days, but the question remains…are they here to stay or are we going to have another Rihanna and Chris Brown saga?
Pattinson is to me, very uncomfortable in real life. He’s shy, awkward and with his angular face washed of the Vampire makeup of the alluring character Edward Cullen, the dangerous predator disappears and the true person remains. Feeling comfortable in your own skin must be one of the most difficult life lessons, and yet many of us blokes don’t get it until we’re starting to get that salt and pepper look on top and we give in. Oh well, youth has eluded me so I may as well just accept my look. Yes! Do that! But do it now.
The Vamprish style has always been controlled by black. Black isn’t a colour, it’s a shade. So it will sit well on anyone. Because the pupils of our eyes are complimented and the composition of this shade brings focus to the face. The timeless look of this style is in the fusion of loose fitting jeans, ties, vests and tailored jackets. Absolutely no jewellery. The best palette is charcoal, grey, deep blue, black, metallic and white. And as for the hair – that ‘just got out of bed’ look is the go.

I’m sensing a magnificent movement that is about to arrive on the shores of every man’s hometown. And it’s being driven by the consumer’s heart. Now, I’m not going to go all soppy on you and fall into a blubbering mess and cry ‘it’s finally here!’, but the ‘tone of voice’ that keeps popping up when I am researching new trends is starting to form a pattern of clouds in the sky….spelling out – Chivalry. To be honest this makes my heart pound just a little bit harder and my biceps seem to nostalgically remember a muscle memory of centuries past when I most likely held a sword and screamed a line out of BraveHeart. But what’s happening is men (and women – believe it boys!) realise that Fashion is not art, it’s porn and Style is king….literally. But we’re not talking about a physical style here. It’s spiritual and emotional. A ‘code’ of conduct that is starting to weave its way into every fibre of cloth and human matter because somewhere along the way, we’ve had enough. I’m a big believer in entrepreneurs. They pioneer through mangroves and cut a new path that gives a boost to the economy and a livelihood to families. When these entrepreneurs have a company value system that embraces ethics and their CEO/founder lives it, we are one happy family. Renzo Russo, CEO/ Founder of Diesel, and Richard Branson (we all know who he is) are two of my favourites, because they walk the talk. Renzo is talking about ‘only the brave’. The mantra is plastered on everything from tight T-shirts to the lobby of Diesel’s deliciously industrial corporate offices. And perhaps constantly being reminded of these three little words is exactly what keeps Rosso running. He’s investing in up and coming designers and expanding into new industries like restaurants and furniture. Branson, well, do we need to say more? It’s a name to which we all feel we’re personally acquainted to as he’s sooooo personal himself and he cares for people. What gets him out of bed everyday is he wants to find a new way to give people a good time. A hero! So you see….there is a change of focus. Men are moving towards five archetypes that have been lost in the dark ages for a long time now. The Hero, The Warrior, The Priest, The King and The Hunter. Why? Because as corporations fail us, and society’s greed claims us, a rise to the human spirit is what’s driving us. Men have a natural code to protect and fight for what he believes in. It’s in his blood stream. So gents, dress like you mean business, and I mean ‘business’! The Stylemeisters talk about all 5 male archetypes in their e-book.

Here goes a little tale of a couple of wise guys dressing up in various swanky suits, ties and trousers, to test some manly looks in a very entertaining way! Young Ryan and his comrade Jon engaged in a month-long tie-wearing competition. They don’t typically have to wear ties to work, so this challenged them to explore some different looks online, to attract feedback on their dress/style sense. The Stylemeisters definitely throught that viewing this site is a must and do leave comments. (We think the gents like it) Visit http://www.TieOrDie.com and check out the daily, one-on-one Who Wore it Best contest (with an interesting punishment for the loser at the end of the month, I might add). It’s all in fun, really, but remember that you need to be a little lighthearted to get out of the ’system’ that you’re in and allow your confidence to come forth. Wear those vintage ties with pride Ryan! (ps – Ryan you win on the 1st October, and Jon, we love your 6th October look!)

What IS it about the Aston Martin & the mere male? Is it the empowerment he gets from sitting at the wheel that makes him feel like he wants to pursue his dreams, protect his extended family from the mafia, and pack a handgun in his glovebox? I mean, it’s a man’s birthright to drive a fuel guzzling sportscar at least once in his life, right?! And in fact to drive an Aston Martin would mean you’d be doing so at face-melting speeds while tipping your head back into the cradle of the head-rest and shouting at the Lord Almighty!
The Aston is an exotic breed. So much so, it won’t bother you if your month’s salary has disappeared in 3 hours. Or that the carbon footprint would be the size of King Kong’s. Perhaps it wouldn’t even bother you that it has a standard kit like the sports muffler, carbon fibre engine bay kit, a full alcantara interior and serial numbered plaques (only 30 of course)…because it’s an Aston Martin! That’s all that matters right!
Now let’s get back to the ONLY 30 that are going to be manufactured.
Like what?! What sort of monopoly is that? You KNOW that only the mega-wealthy are going to be ‘in’ to buy one of these. In fact, when the new Bentley was released with only 100 manufactured for the UK, a top sports star bought one and was on the delivery wait list for 6 months. So for the average Jo Bloeeeeee, it’s an impossible dream…or is it?

There is soooo much out there on the www, that it’s a given you’re going to miss something. So the Stylemeisters beat their chests when they come across such a find.
Bonobos is fashion ‘man-speak’ at its best, and if you know your world animals (and not just think you’re one in the bedroom) you’ll know that the Bonobos is one of the most amazing creatures on Earth, a peace loving, communal living, and (yes, we know!) sexually promiscuous Great Ape that possesses nearly all of modern man’s better traits. The polo & trouser Bonobos company know that these beautiful creatures are in danger so they donate money with every sale and new customer that buys their product.
Bonobos employ intelligent, empathetic people who provide exceptional customer service, free shipping, easy returns, and overall a fantastic experience. No Markups, No Sales Pitches. Why? Because they hate shopping too. They also dislike bad service, retail music that is too loud, and dressing rooms that are too small. Worst of all, the Ninjas at Bonobos hate losing time shopping when you could be doing better things like – beating your chest like a Bonobos! So now, you can experience the ease of online shopping on ‘your time buddy!’.
So who are these ninjas, the stylemeisters ask…
Bonobos was created in 2007 by Brian Spaly and Andy Dunn while they were roommates at Business School. As legend has it, Brian began altering pants for himself using a girlfriend’s sewing machine until Brian and Andy’s friends liked the pants so much that they demanded pairs of their own. They started Bonobos to solve a simple problem: men’s pants just don’t fit well. They’re either too tight to be comfortable or too baggy to look good. By innovating in a few key areas, we’ve developed a fit that looks and feels great for a wide variety of men.
We love em!

It’s absolutely amazing how you can sit in one chair, scroll through hundreds of pages on the internet and at the end of the day feel like you’ve been a social butterfly, filled with knowledge and enthusiasm, yet you’ve not seen a single soul. A far cry from the open door policy of the 70’s and 80’s where your mother welcomed everyone and anyone of your friends into the house, (or friend’s friends) for Sunday roast. I am sure she felt blessed when those she looked upon with concern, never returned.
